We all have them.... even the greatest, most impactful leaders in history. Those mornings when we just don't want to face everything that is waiting for us beyond our covers.

Unending "to do" lists, projects that need attention, people that need attention, the bottomless inbox. Those days when all we really want to do is throw the blankets back over our heads and stay in bed.

The first habit to leadership success is often the hardest - just Get Up. Throw off the warm, comfy blankets and rise up to face the day. Leadership is about consistently doing our best to take on the challenges that we face daily and doing our best to meet them. However, we can't effectively lead if we don't get out of bed.

Creating a morning ritual is helpful. Whether it is sipping on a cup of coffee while you review your calendar, spending 10 minutes reading something motivational to engage your brain, or getting on the treadmill to get your body moving - a schedule and routine can help you to Get Up and get going so you can focus on Habit #2 - Show Up!
